“Fantasy is the literature for teenagers” – Brian Aldiss

Every teenager lives in a fantasy land that is closest to their dreams and aspirations. They dream of their secret desires and wish to fulfill them in their fantasies. However, a fantasy is far away from the reality. The real world has some rules and boundaries that restrict us from realizing our heartfelt desires; hence people fulfill them in their fantasy.

Therefore, many people buy fantasy posters to relish their heartfelt desires. They paste these attractive posters on their wall and gaze at them all day and night. Many teenagers escape into the world of fantasies and make plans to convert them into reality because they believe that most of the fantasies have their roots in the reality.

These posters are also famous among small kids, who have deep fascination towards fantasy characters like Spiderman, Superman, Barbie, Cinderella etc. You can always find them getting deep into the skin of the fantasy characters and imitating them while executing a fight with a deadly monster or a witch. These fantasy posters are closest to their heart; therefore you can see a huge smile on their face as soon as you mention the name of dynamic fantasy poster.

Hence, these posters are the ultimate gifts items for the kids and teenagers. However, the choice of the poster depends on their gender like boys are fond of posters of popular fantasy heroes, while girls like posters that depict famous fairy tales. Moreover, these posters are very colorful and vibrant; hence they can add extra glamour to the rooms of your kids.

You can buy these attractive posters through various online portals. You just need to log on to an online portal that sells posters and click on the list of fantasy posters. This will produce a pictorial view of the latest and most popular posters within few seconds. These portals also have enlarged view of all the posters, hence you can go through their minute detailing and purchase the most attractive fantasy poster, for your kids.

Generally underrated by critics, this 1978 sequel to the famous Guns of Navarone finds a miscellaneous group of commandos and spies trying to hinder the Nazis by destroying a bridge between them and the partisans. The story (based on a novel by Alistair MacLean) has nothing to do with the first film, but it is a tightly woven and entertaining piece with sharp performances and delightful character …

What is a Zeugma?

Zeugma is a rhetorical device where a single word is made to refer to two or more words in a sentence, often playing on the words’ literal and metaphorical meanings.

Smiling with a crooked smile that did little to hide his crooked intentions and crooked teeth, he said “Trust me.”

The verb ‘To hide’ controls two other words: intentions and teeth. But what is worthy of note in this zeugma is the juxtaposition of an abstract noun (intentions) to a concrete one (teeth).

Now, however, sloth triumphs over diligence, idleness over work, vice over virtue, arrogance over valor, and theory over the practice of arms which lived and shone only in the Golden Age and in the time of the knights errant (Cervantes 465).

I found her enchanted, transformed from a princess into a peasant, from beautiful to ugly, from an angel into a devil, from fragrant into foul-smelling, from well spoken into rustic, from serene into skittish, from light into darkness, and, finally from Dulcinea of Toboso into a lowborn farmgirl from Sayago (Cervantes 671).

With this simple device Cervantes adds delight and color to the narrative-by means of antithesis-at the same time that cultivates the reader’s attentiveness, forcing him to put two and two together to grasp the intended meaning.

Zeugmas used in a humorous vein:

Lenox said, “Hog, the only thing you save is your breath when you eat.”

After two unsuccessful marriages, I find myself keeping my guard up, along with my underpants (Grafton, C is for Corpse 15).

In Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, we note Portia’s saucy speech:

How oddly he is suited [outfitted]! I think he bought his doublet in Italy, his round hose in France, his bonnet in Germany, and his behavior everywhere. (Act I, scene ii, line 72-72).

Zeugmas used to set the tone of a book, as in the Vicar of Wakefield:

From this motive, I had scarce taken orders a year before I began to think seriously of matrimony, and chose my wife as she did her wedding gown, not for a fine glossy surface, but such qualities as would wear well (Goldsmith 4).

Zeugmas in Dialogue:

“Eliot, Michael’s untimely departure leaves us with a space both in our house and in our hearts” (Segal 112). “To our beloved new leader Jason Gilbert, ace racket-man and incomparable ass-man. May his shots in court drop as often as his shorts in bed” (Segal 143).

The governing word may be a noun as well as a verb, as we see in the following examples from Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, where the controlling word is the noun ‘hand’:

Calpurnia was something else again. She was all angles and bones; she was nearsighted; she squinted; her hand was wide as a bed slat and twice as hard (7).

and the controlling word is the verb ‘lost’ in the following example:

Mrs. Radley had been beautiful until she married Mr. Radley and lost all her money. She also lost most of her teeth, her hair, and her right forefinger (Dill’s contribution) (39).

From the above examples we infer that zeugmas may be employed to give the narration an air of lighthearted humor or banter. Just as the fool in Shakespearean dramas breaks the solemnity of the scene with parody and foolery, so does Cervantes in Don Quijote:

At this moment a gelder of hogs happened to arrive at the inn, and as he arrived he blew his reed pipe four or five times, which confirmed for Don Quixote that he was in a famous castle where they were entertaining him with music, and that the cod was trout, the bread soft and white, the prostitutes ladies, the innkeeper the castellan of the castle, and that his decision to sally forth had been a good one (Cervantes 29).

When zeugmas join concrete and abstract nouns, the combinations can stir up the reader’s emotions. Tim O’Brien’s novel The Things They Carried is replete with this type of zeugmas:

As a hedge against bad times, however, Kiowa also carried his grandmother’s distrust of the white man, his grandfather’s old hunting hatchet (3). He carried a strobe light and the responsibility for the lives of his men (5). But Ted Lavender, who was scared, carried 34 rounds when he was shot and killed outside Than Khe, and he went down under an exceptional burden, more than 20 pounds of ammunition, plus the flak jacket and helmet and rations and water and toilet paper and tranquilizers and all the rest, plus the unweighed fear (6).

See how Gabriel Garcia Marquez creates atmospheric tension with the use of one governing verb, ‘listening’:

He got dressed by feel, listening in the dark to his brother’s calm breathing, the dry cough of his father in the next room, the asthma of the hens in the courtyard, the buzz of the mosquitoes, the beating of his heart, and the inordinate bustle of a world that he had not noticed until then, and he went out in the sleeping street (Garcia Marquez, One Hundred Years of Solitude 27).

We haven’t exhausted the topic, for there are other zeugma derivatives that depend on what slot of the sentence the zeugma is placed in; but their sophistication can cause ambiguity and confusion; therefore we do not recommend their use.

Are you a fan of the Harry Potter movie series? If you said yes, then many of you must be fans of the other characters too.

It is not a new thing that people like the supporting characters too apart the protagonist. And the supporting characters of Harry Potter are really amazing. They have their own forte, powers and skills. And the fans not only like the positive supporting characters, but they also like the characters that are in the opposition of the Hero. Positive or negative whoever you like, but one thing is for sure that all the supporting characters of Harry Potter have their own identity. They play an important role in the plot of the story and this is the reason that people like them too.

In this article, we will discuss about the 5 Hay Potter characters whose actions figures are very popular –

1. Harry Potter – Obviously, this name has to be on the top. With millions as his fans worldwide, the character of this child magician has grown up in the last few years. Till now, the silver screen has witnessed six Harry Potter movies and all of them have been great hits through out the world. And surprisingly not only kids, but adults too watch his movies. Harry James is an orphan who learns that he is a wizard on his eleventh birthday. Then he goes to the ‘Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry’ to learn magic. Harry Potter discovers that he is famous in the whole Wizarding world as his fate is tied with that of Lord Voldemort, the Dark wizard who killed the parents of Harry.

The Harry Potter action figure is among the hottest toys today.

2. Hermione Granger – Now, those who know Harry Potter they also know about this character for sure. Hermione is the girlfriend of our little magician. Hermione Jean Granger becomes close friends with Harry Potter and she uses her quick wit and encyclopedic knowledge to help him in situations. She is very clever and intelligent.

Initially, she has a tendency to panic in scary situations, but later she learns to be more instinctive, saving others lives at times with her quick thinking. Today, the Hermione Granger action figures are not much behind the Harry Potter figures in popularity.

3. Dumbledore – Next comes Dumbledore, the full name is ‘Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore’. This character plays an important role in the story of Harry Potter as he is the major protagonist. Dumbledore is the headmaster of the Wizarding Magic School – ‘Hogwarts of Witchcraft and Wizardry’. He is the founder and director of the ‘Order of the Phoenix’, an organization that fights the main antagonist Lord Voldemort.

You can find that the Dumbledore action figures are available in different series as they have released by the toy companies after the release of every Harry Potter movie.

4. Draco Malfoy – All Harry Potter fans much know about this character. Draco is an antagonist the Harry Potter series. He is a Slytherin student studying with Harry. This character is accompanied by Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle, two dim-witted accomplices who mostly act as his bodyguards. Draco is often regarded as a cowardly bully that is known for using taunts and psychological manipulation for denigrating his victims. Draco reveals his ability to cunningly wield magic for achieve his objectives.

Draco likes to attack his enemies with psychological warfare. He often sues his elitist upbringing as his weapon to belittle the ones who are less prosperous like Ron Weasley.

The Harry Potter Draco action figures released after every Harry Potter movie resemble the original character. A large number of people collect these action figures and this proves that people like the negative characters too.

5. Hagrid – This cute fat looking character of Rubeus Hagrid is very popular among the Harry Potter fans. The interesting thing is that this character is addressed by his surname only. Hagrid is the keeper of Keys and Grounds. He is also the gamekeeper of the magic school. The character of Hagrid was introduced in the Harry Potter’s third year at the Hogwarts School. Later it is revealed that this character is also a member of the ‘Order of the Phoenix’. After his expulsion from the magic school, the Ministry breaks his oak wand and forbade him of magic. But, he keeps the broken pieces of his wand in an umbrella to perform small spells at times. The character of Hagrid will always be a bit inept because he is not a fully qualified wizard compared to the others. He may loose his major magical tricks, but he is still a hit in the action figure world as there are many different versions of Hagrid action figures available today in the market. .

What would the average sensible American do if he encountered a pulsing ball of protoplasm from outer space? That’s right: he’d poke it with a stick. Thus begins the endearingly earnest and silly tale of The Blob. Young Steve McQueen takes on his first leading role as, um, Steve, a spunky teenager with plenty of heart. Steve sees the blob kill the local doc, but darn it, none of the town’s adults …
