Angels and Demons

Dec 09
2009

The movie adaptation of Dan Brown’s most successful novel till date, ‘The Da Vinci Code’, was a massive commercial hit in 2006. Most of the critics had rejected the film but the viewers loved it. The success of this movie prompted the producers to come out with a sequel (in reality a prequel) starring Tom Hanks as Prof. Robert Langdon yet again. The film adaptation of Dan Brown’s ‘Angels and Demons’ was directed by Ron Howard and released in the summers of 2009.

Angels and Demons doesn’t features in the same league as The Da Vinci Code. In fact the stupendous success of latter had led the 1st three novels of Brown hitting best seller’s list. So, the film adaptation of Angels and Demons was never expected to match the hype and money generated by its predecessor. Definitely Ron Howard didn’t have any sort of pressure on him to deliver. He could have used this opportunity to create a film that could satiate the critics, viewers and the fans of Brown alike. But he misses out by miles. The film didn’t get much favorable reviews from critics but the worst of all the director disappointed the fans of this second best novel by Dan Brown completely.

The biggest drawback of this film is that it deviates a lot from the original novel in terms of plots and characters. The character of the director of CERN has been left out while the character of Hassasin has been replaced by Mr. Gray, a white male. Unlike novel Prof. Langdon visits Vatican directly without visiting CERN. There are a no. of other vital changes in the plot and the events which are quite painful for an avid fan of the novel to watch.

The film fails to create memorable characters too. The character of Camerlengo has been messed up completely. In the novel his character is quite complicated and very deftly written. In the film he is a mere shadow of the character depicted in the novel. Mr. Gray is a big big disappointment. It is difficult to understand why the character of Hassasin was replaced with this one.

But still the film is not bad. For the people who love fast thrillers and have nothing to do with the novel or Dan Brown the film is a good time pass. The pace of the film is good and visually it is brilliant. Howard has kept the proceedings much simpler and so the film is comparatively easier to understand than its predecessor.

Taking Lives

Dec 08
2009

I’ve a friend who is known for using this term a lot “shoulda coulda”. She actually laughs about it, but it is something that we all say at some point in our lives. I am learning that it is not just important, but healthy to make time for you. No, it is not being selfish, rather it is so important that doing it will result in making your relationships around you better, you’ll work more effectively on the job, and it will help to eliminate or reduce unwanted stress in your life. What do we gain from working ourselves to exhausting; racing after the fast buck, and in the process miss enjoying life, and the people that fills our lives with love and joy?

Stress has become a common word that is used often in our conversations. It has become an acceptable part of living – it appears that if you don’t have stress from the job or something or another then your life isn’t full enough, or you’re coasting.Could it be that a life not lived under the dominating hand of stress is possible? Despite our hectic lives, we can stop and smell the roses, enjoy the actual taste and flavors in the food we eat, take note of what we’re blessed with, and embrace the friendships around us. Yes, we can get to a place at least once a week to take time for self – to relax, and allow your body; give it that well deserved break. One Sunday I went with four gal friends on a day trip to Seattle.

Two of them have kids; Sonya had a 6 month old and it was her first time away from him. You could tell by her words and actions that she was having fun, yet missed her baby.Bev has 3, a pro at it:-), and couldn’t say enough of what “getting away” meant to her. Carmen, mother of two, her youngest is 29-Cyn, the daughter of Carmen and myself. We laughed, shopped, ate, howled at each other’s comments, relaxed and had a ball. We were all at different places in our lives, but we all had the same basic need “time for self”, time away from the norm of doing the automatic required and sometimes necessary chores. It was precious, priceless, inexpensive and healthy. Though we arrived back home later than planned, tired, but relaxed and revived. We intend on doing it at least once per year with this group. So, make plans and get away from your “norm”; spend time with yourself or with a group of people you can have fun with, let your hair down, and have some fun. Don’t wait until you’re worn out, and times run out before you find yourself saying, “I shoulda, coulda” It is time to schedule time for YOU!

The Daredevil soundtrack provided a nice boost for this previously unknown quartet from Little Rock, Arkansas. Evanescence’s songs “My Immortal” and the imposing “Bring Me to Life” are clear standouts in the film, mainly because they work so well with the dramatic, eerie undertones of the storyline. They reappear here on the band’s debut, alongside a selection of similarly brooding tracks that evo…

While it doesn’t rank with such grim classics as The Silence of the Lambs and Seven, D.J. Caruso’s Taking Lives offers similarly heavy atmosphere, beginning well before fizzling into absurdity. Freely adapted from the novel by Michael Pye, and set in Montreal (although it was filmed in Quebec City), the plot trades in several familiar tropes of the serial-killer genre, beginning with the FBI agent…

I’m legend

Do you play a lot of video games? Are you one of those people that buy a video game, beat it, and then trade it in at GameStop for another video game? Have you ever felt like you were getting ripped off? Well, I have a solution for you. Imagine getting your next game for free, or maybe only having to pay a few dollars for it as opposed to the large chunk of change that GameStop would take out of your wallet after you get a few measly dollars for your trade in. I’m talking about going the smart way to getting your video game fix. I’m talking about buying and selling your video games on eBay.

Everyone knows that eBay is one of the best places to buy just about anything at a discounted price, and video games are no different. You can save anywhere from a few dollars to over $20 if you buy your video games on eBay instead of at a local retailer. And the best part is, you can sell the same game back, just the same, and then buy yourself a new one. The savings are phenomenal if you think about it, especially if you play a lot of video games. Sometimes you can even get more for your video games than what you originally paid for them. I have personally experienced this several times.

When placing a bid on a video game, think about the most you’d be willing to pay for it if you were going to buy it retail. Subtract shipping and handling from that price. Then bid. Chances are you’ll win the bid at a lot less than the retail price would be. Or, if you want to be a spend thrift, as I often am, set the price at the most you’d be willing to pay for the game, even if it’s below retail. If you have the cash, I’d recommend bidding on a bunch of the same game at this way low price. Chances are, you won’t win most of the auctions. But if you win one at a steal it would be all worth it. Plus, if you win two copies, you can always resell one of them. This method works great and I use it quite often. When Nintendo Wiis first came out and were sold out in stores, they were selling on eBay for $600 and higher. By using the method I described above, I won my Nintedo Wii at $330 with 18 free games. That’s less than they were selling for in stores at the time. And I’m not talking about 18 games that no one would want. My Wii came with Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Wii Sports, and Legend of Zelda for the Wii. The other 15 games were really good GameCube games.

So next time you’re thinking about trading in one of your video games at GameStop, you might want to take a second and consider cashing it in on eBay instead.

the matrix?

this is not a question this is a statement. the matrix is a possibilty and i have not been “watching to many movies” i believe that the idea of the matrix is a reality, what do you think?

You know. I’m fascinated. Please email me and tell me what and why you think this. What evidence do you have?

And Neo, watch out for that Cipher…

Anyway, I suppose anything is possible, and it makes sense for truly scientific minds to consider any possiblity. Although what we could do about it if it were is pretty limited.
